- Families for Safe Streets is collecting data to identify areas where primarily pedestrians and also cyclists have experienced near misses. We are using the same basic approach as aircraft pilots use to report “near miss” incidents.
- Data is reported anonymously to the city to help identify in a real time setting locations with potential safety issues that do not show up in traditional crash data sources. Our goal is to improve the safety of all people.
- Disclaimer: AFSS is only collecting and then sharing the “Near Miss” data with the City. Ultimate decisions on locations and engineering improvements and the timing and level of police traffic surveillance are the responsibility of the professionals at the Alexandria Department of Transportation and Environmental Services and the Alexandria Police Department.
Red = Enforcement Issues; Blue = Engineering Issue; Purple = Enforcement + Engineering Issues
