Alexandria’s Families for Safe Streets is at Francis C. Hammond Middle School.

Five AFSS crash survivors and an AFSS member whose father was killed by a traffic violating driver came together on Seminary Road in front of the Francis Hammond Middle School to draw attention that the month of June is one of the highest pedestrian and cyclists crash months in Alexandria. As AFSS members stood on the side walk cars were recorded traveling at 40+ mph in a 25 mph zone in front of the school. One pedestrian out of ten is killed when crashed into by cars traveling at 20 mph. Nine out of ten pedestrians are killed when cars crash into them at 40 mph. Speed Kills!

Thanks to Alexandria Police Department, and Transportation & Environmental Services, for coming out and supporting our safety event.
